When a relationship breaks down, emotions run high and talking face to face can seem the hardest thing to do. Mediation can help you have those difficult discussions so that you can focus on what is best for you and your children.
Parents can make arrangements for children without involving the court. If this is not possible, before the court will deal with your case, you will be required to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM).
The cost of MIAM is £125pp. Mediation sessions are £250pp per 2 hour session.
Administration and Summary costs are £100pp for property and finance cases and for children’s cases, the cost is £50pp.
Mediation is a process to help people who are divorcing or separating or who want to make ongoing arrangements for their children. Mediation helps you to work things out together. It is not relationship counselling or a way to help you get back together.
A professionally trained mediator helps you to talk through the issues that are important to you and make arrangements that are best for you and your children. Mediation can be far quicker and is much cheaper than court proceedings. Divorce and Separation are always traumatic but mediation can lessen the pain for you and your family.
I attended Manchester and Cheshire Mediation to resolve problems surrounding child arrangements and contact with my children. The mediator helped us to focus on the needs of our children and work out a shared parenting plan that placed them at the centre of our decision. I felt this was a more intimate and productive way of resolving our issues without the need for expensive Court intervention and associated costs. The mediator also made it known that we could return in the future and if necessary could undertake a child consultation session whenever our discussions did not prove fruitful.

I attended mediation to sort out my finances post divorce. The situation was complicated by the fact that time had elapsed and my ex was living abroad. I attended a total of 2 sessions by zoom with the mediator. Was very happy with the mediation process and final outcome. All the staff at Manchester and Cheshire Mediation very helpful and informative. I also discovered that I was entitled to claim Legal Aid due to claiming Universal Credit which they arranged on my behalf. Legal Aid entitled me to free mediation sessions.Tracyfrom Gorton
Our solicitors recommended we go to Manchester and Cheshire Mediation to try and resolve our issues over children and finances. We were told it would in our case be a quicker and cheaper option than litigation. We found the service to be very helpful and professional. Whilst we did not resolve everything we certainly made progress but with the help of our solicitors we were able to reach a satisfactory outcome which we later had ratified in court.
Issues surrounding the children. The mediator was very experienced and enabled us to have a more constructive discussion about what was in their best interests.
My friend recommended Manchester and Cheshire Mediation. We managed to resolve our differences re children and finances in 3 sessions. At the end the mediator wrote a summary of our proposals which helped our solicitors conclude our divorce quickly – a much cheaper route than Court.
I went to my solicitor who told me I needed a C100 certificate to file at Court in order to see my children. After speaking to a Mediator this was issued immediately.
If you are on Universal Credit you qualify for Legal Aid. The Legal Aid Board covered my mediation fees a reduced fee for the other party concerned.
I was unable to see my grandchildren and mediation helped me resolve the situation without unpleasant confrontations.
I contacted Manchester and Cheshire Mediation to help me see my children after an acrimonious separation. I am in receipt of Universal Credit as I am unemployed which meant I was entitled to Legal Aid. That was organised for me. Both mediation sessions were done via zoom and I was happy with the outcome.
We were ordered by the Court to attend mediation. The mediators tried to sort out our differences but the process broke down. We were able to go back to Court having tried the process.
Separated for 2 years and needed to sort out finances. Organised mediation for myself and partner. We 2 sessions over zoom which was effective.
It was helpful that the 30 minute Mediation Information and Assessment meeting is being done by phone during lockdown, as I managed to fit it in around my job and didn’t need to take any time off work.
My appointment came very quickly and was arranged within 3 days.
The Court resolved our dispute over schooling but then sent us to mediation to help us improve our communication which we both needed to address for the sake of our children.
Quick, cheap and a lot less hassle than Court or solicitors
